There’s a quiet corner of rural Ireland that will very soon become a hotbed of frenzied excitement, as competitors battle it out for a result that could clinch the Irish Superbike Championship.
First held in 1984, the Killalane Road Races event has quickly established itself as one of Ireland’s biggest biking occasions. And in its short history it’s had some of the best known names in racing go roaring round the local tarmac. People like Joey and Robert Dunlop, Mark Farmer, Steve Cull, Sam McClements, Phillip McCallen, Dave Leach, James Courtney and Owen McNally.
At 3.6 miles long, the course is almost side by side with the famous Skerries 100, but it’s even narrower in some places, so expect to see the riders encountering some tough challenges. Including a tree growing in the middle of the road at one section on the circuit!
A rare chance to see the awesome race machines standing still, with their riders and support crews clustering round them. Wander over for a word or two and get autographs – and selfies – to remember the big day by. But if they’re busy, it’s best to stand well back and let them get on with the serious business of tuning and tweaking for the next big race! In which case you can check out all the great trade stands and stalls spread out around the Paddock and piled high with biking bargains.
Why just watch when you can ride? To be more than a spectator, get the free download of the awesome insidebikes app powered by Carole Nash. Then you’ll find yourself in another dimension, with an augmented reality 360O experience of speeding round Donington GP Circuit astride Rocket Ron Haslam’s Honda superbike. For more information, come on the Carole Nash stand.
